Today, Fuse Service operates over 55 offices across the country, collaborates with global brands, and even runs its own technician training school. But back in 2018, it all started with a minivan, a set of tools, and just two people. One of them was Stan Pakarin, the company’s co-founder. We spoke with him about his journey, green technologies, and the evolving role of technicians at Fuse Service.

Q. Stan, you started out repairing air conditioners. Today, your company is a network of dozens of branches across the United States. What was the turning point?

Adam Khusniyarov, co-founder of Fuse Service, and I started out with just a couple of orders a day. I think the turning point came when we recognized that we didn’t want to be merely repairmen. We wanted to be part of shaping the industry by setting higher standards.

Q. Before Fuse Service, you were already involved in business in Russia. How did that experience help you in the US?

In Russia, I ran a furniture factory. I took care of everything: designing visuals, selling products, hiring employees… basically, all aspects. It was a valuable experience because it taught me how to build a business from the ground up, and I learned not to fear failures. My education in economics also helped me understand the dynamics of business. When I arrived in the US, I had to start over—this time with a wrench in my hand! But I knew that by listening to customers and setting up effective processes, it’s possible to make progress over time.

Q. You often talk about technology and sustainable development. This is not yet standard practice in the HVAC industry. Why is it important to you?

Times are changing, as we all know. Issues like climate challenges, energy efficiency, and smart homes have become everyday necessities. If a company doesn’t consider sustainability today, it may find itself left behind. At Fuse Service, we implement solutions that genuinely help save resources. It’s not just about benefiting the environment, but also providing tangible advantages to customers—like reducing energy bills and enhancing long-term system reliability. It’s a win-win situation.

Q. Fuse Service is growing through franchises. What is your secret to keeping quality consistent with such growth?

Honestly, that’s one of the most challenging aspects. While rapid growth can be exciting, it’s easy to lose control. That’s why we document every aspect of our business processes. Fuse Franchising trains new partners not just on how to fix equipment but also on how to run their business in line with our values. It’s all about maintaining a strong culture. We prioritize investing in training and ongoing support, and we’re fortunate to have motivated and dedicated individuals on our team.

Q. You also opened Fuse School. Why?

I wanted to create a space where people could learn not just the theory, but also the practical skills required in the industry. At Fuse School, students gain hands-on experience. These aren’t just courses—they represent an investment in the future of the industry. We aim to train professionals who could join our team or even start their own companies. It’s our way of contributing to the industry’s growth.

Q. What mistakes do you look back at with a smile?

Oh, there were quite a few! I remember one time we signed a contract with the owner of an old building that still had electrical wiring from the 1970s. It was, let’s say, very outdated. We had to install an AC system, but nothing went according to plan. The project dragged on, and I ended up spending days running around with a ladder. But it’s in those challenging situations that a strong team is built.

Q. The last question: What is your forecast for the future of the HVAC industry?

Just five words: automation, renewable energy, hybrid systems. These will likely become the norm. In 5–10 years, HVAC systems will likely be an integral part of smart home infrastructure. And we hope to be among those leading the way.
