As parents, we must know the possible health perils lurking our children. Several young people have recently died in the UK due to a severe form of strep A infection. This has prompted health officials to warn families around the world to this serious condition.
As the world has opened up more and more, so has the door to viral infections. It is therefore not surprising that the number of Covid-19 cases has been steadily increasing recently.
While most people who come into contact with this highly contagious bacteria will not experience serious symptoms, it can still pose a serious health risk and should be taken seriously.
Strep A: What is It?
Strep A is commonly found in the throat and skin and is something we all encounter at some point.
Unbeknownst to many, the harmless carriers of a certain contagious agent can cause harm when bringing it in contact with others. Without proper knowledge and preventative measures, these potentially vulnerable individuals may suffer from illness associated with this infectious intruder.
Viral transmission occurs through close contact with an infected person or droplets from coughs and sneezes.
Even in places of education and care, such as schools or nursing homes, outbreaks can still occur. Therefore, we must be aware of the risk, even within our most trusted environments.

Several Symptoms
Most bacterial infections are mild, like sore throats and skin infections, but prompt access to antibiotics can help treat these problems quickly.
Strep A is no small-time malady; it can lead to far more severe consequences than just a sore throat.
One result would be scarlet fever. Scarlet fever is a contagious illness primarily affecting young kids and requires antibiotic treatment to erase its symptoms.
Scarlet Fever is One Indication
Health professionals must recognize and report suspected cases of this notifiable disease, as timely treatment can stop the spread and help prevent outbreaks.
A rash plus flu-like symptoms such as fever, sore throat, and enlarged lymph nodes can be a telltale signs of this ailment.
For those with darker skin, the rash can be harder to spot by just looking at it. However, a telltale sign may be its sandpaper-like texture when touched.
Scarlet fever comes with an interesting symptom – a tongue that resembles a strawberry. Because of its unique hue, doctors often refer to it as the “strawberry tongue.”

Dangers for Children
Although it is rare, strep A can be responsible for a severe infection called iGAS – Invasive Group A Streptococcal. Those infected may experience severe symptoms and require urgent medical attention.
Danger lurks, which could be fatal – a reminder to stay vigilant.
In some cases, bacteria invasions can occur when an individual’s immune defenses are weakened – such as through pre-existing illness or treatments like specific cancer therapies that impair the body’s natural protection.
Be aware of high fever and severe body aches, as they could be signs of the invasive disease.
Time is of the essence if you require medical attention – don’t wait to get quick, effective treatment.
