Mahershala Ali Portrays Blade in MCU Film Underway

Mahershala Ali’s film Blade is back on the track.

It’s been more than three years since Marvel Studios revealed plans to make a new film. It involves the award-winning Ali playing the role of the fan favorite half-human, half-vampire hero.

Originally, the studio planned to begin filming this fall. However, original filmmaker Bassam Tariq dropped out of the project in September, months before the film began production.

EW recently reported that the production has found a new director – Lovecraft Country’s Yann Demange.

Demange is known for directing thriller films like ’71 and White Boy Rick. In addition, he recently directed the pilot episode of HBO’s Lovecraft Country. The film stars Jurnee Smollett and Jonathan Majors.

Furthermore, Demange will take on the role of executive director on the show.

After Tariq left the production, Marvel halted production of Blade. Instead, the studio focused on getting the story as right as possible and finding the best collaborators for the filmmakers.

Eventually, the studio got its new director in Demange. The director will direct a new screenplay written by Michael Starrbury.

In particular, Starrbury was nominated for an Emmy for his contribution to Ava DuVernay’s When They See Us.

The film’s production is set to begin in Atlanta next year. And Blade is expected to hit theaters on September 6, 2024.

First Move

The studio originally planned to release Blade in 2023, positioning it as one of Marvel’s Phase 5 steps. However, future developments will determine whether Blade continues to fall into the Phase 5 film category. Therefore, details regarding the new release date are not yet known.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe sometimes dives deep into the horror genre, specifically with this year’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Werewolf by Night

However, the most recent Blade film is reportedly darker and eerier than what Marvel previously offered. As a result, fans will see Ali make his onscreen debut as the titular character.

But the MCU already heard his voice. In one of the end credits for Eternals, he talks to Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman.

Blade Adaptations

Blade is a fictional character made by Marvel Comics. Marv Wolfman and penciler Gene Colan served as his creators.

The character initially appeared in the comic book The Tomb of Dracula #10 (1973) as a supporting character. Later, he starred in his own storylines.

Blade uses his one-of-a-kind physiology to be the greatest vampire hunter. Although he was originally portrayed as a human immune to the bites of vampires, the adaptations later introduced Blade as a dhampir. This came after he was adapted in Spider-Man: The Animated Series and Blade film series.

Moreover, he is the father of Fallon Grey.

In the movies Blade, Blade II, and Blade: Trinity, Wesley Snipes played the character, while Sticky Fingas portrayed the character in Blade: The Series. Furthermore, J.D. Hall voiced the character in Spider-Man: The Animated Series, and Terry Crews in Ultimate Spider-Man and Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.

Andrew Garfield Loved Every Bit of Filming with Fellow Spidey

Spider-Man: No Way Home is the most renowned film in 2021. It broke pandemic box office records and became an instant classic for audiences around the world!

However, in the latest interview, Andrew Garfield said that the actual production of the film had a light-hearted feel. He actually said that acting alongside Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland felt less like a superhero blockbuster and more like shooting an experimental short film with his close friends.

Garfield sat down with GQ UK for its Men of the Year release. During the interview, he shared an incredible memory from filming No Way Home with his co-Spidey.

“I got to treat it like a short film about Spider-Man with buddies,” Garfield said in the interview with GQ.

“The pressure was off me. It was all on Tom’s shoulders. Like, it’s his trilogy. And me and Tobey were there to provide support and have as good a time as possible, actually, and be as inventive, imaginative, and kind of dumb as possible.”

The second Spidey said he had doubts about how his version would fit into the trio when he first spotted the prospect of No Way Home.

“Y’know, between the three of us, I was like, ‘Oh, s—, this is going to be interesting,” Garfield elaborated.

“You have three people who feel real ownership over this character. But it was really, like, brotherhood first, I think. And I think that comes through in what we shot.”

Spidey

It’s been a decade since Garfield made the screen as Peter Parker in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man. He then reprised the role in the 2014 sequel. However, the studio eventually crossed out the plan for a third film.

In the sit-down with GQ, Garfield revealed that he thought his Spidey time was on its end ahead of reading the No Way Home script.

“I don’t know if I had an expectation of doing more,” he stated. “I was very open to it being whatever it was meant to be. But there was an undone feeling. Like, ‘What was that experience about? And how do I close that circle in my living room on my own?’

“And I was doing that – and then it was like that classic thing when you’re getting over a relationship, and you’re first starting to really feel free and untethered from that thing – the person knows to call the hour after the first good night’s sleep you’ve had.”

No Way Home premiered in theaters in December 2021 and garnered an eye-popping $1.9 billion globally. Furthermore, it earned a title as the sixth all-time highest-grossing film.

Garfield Roles

Garfield has won numerous awards throughout his career. This includes Tony Awards, BAFTA TV and Golden Globe Awards.

Time even included the 39-year-old actor in its roster of 100 most influential people in the world in 2022.

Garfield – born in Los Angeles and raised in Epsom – started to embark on his journey when he trained at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. His career began on the UK stage and in TV productions.

Furthermore, the actor had his feature film debut in Lions for Lambs (2007).

But he is most renowned for his role as Spidey.

Sylvester Stallone Explains Beginning of Clash with Arnold Schwarzenegger

Arnold Schwarzenegger almost had a knockout effect on Sylvester Stallone’s booming career in the 1990s, the 76-year-old actor said.

The action star elaborated on his previous lengthy clash with Schwarzenegger in the industry. It first started when Stallone accused Schwarzenegger of deceiving him into playing a role with Estelle Getty in the widely criticized 1992 comedy, Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot

“We couldn’t stand to be in the same galaxy together for a while,” Stallone stated. He recently appeared on Friday in the UK’s long standing ITV talk series The Jonathan Ross Show. “We truly, truly loathed each other.”

He added: “He’s quite clever. He goes around town saying, ‘I can’t wait to do this film.’ I got to my agent, ‘Get that thing away from him. Get people options on me.’ I got it, and I said, ‘What a piece of s— this is.’ He goes, ‘Ha ha ha!’ At least I wasn’t pregnant in a film, Arnold. We’re even.”

During another interview on Fox & Friends, the star addressed the situation.

“Schwarzenegger tricked me to do that piece of junk,” Stallone stated of the film. “That’s one of those things that you go, ‘Why am I in this?’ There’s a scene they say, ‘Would you mind wearing diapers?’ I’m going to kill Arnold. I am going to find him and track him.”

As many may remember, Stallone starred as a police sergeant whose pompous mother (Getty) interferes in his professional life.

Prankster Schwarzengger

Additionally, he called his Hollywood rival a “prankster”, leading him to believe he “desperately” wanted to be involved with Stop!

“And I go, ‘Well, I’m not going to let that happen,’” Stallone stated. “So, I snatch it. I said, ‘I want this film desperately.’ And once I got it, I realized, ‘I’m in such a turkey, and it’s not even Thanksgiving – it’s not even Thanksgiving, folks.’”

Although the film received harsh reviews from critics, it ultimately worked well for Stallone and Schwarzenegger. Stallone received his third Oscar nomination 24 years later for his contribution to Creed, a 2015 drama.

Schwarzenegger, meanwhile, won a seat in government in 2003, becoming California’s 38th governor.

Stallone Start

The action star earned his first critical acclaim in The Lords of Flatbush as Stanley Rosiello. Afterward, he worked as an extra or side character in movies with a considerable budget until his limelight debut.

In 1976, he started to gain traction as an actor and screenwriter with the character Rocky Balboa in the first installment of the highly acclaimed Rocky franchise. Additionally, he wrote the screenplay for the film series.

A year later, Stallone became the third actor to earn a nomination for two Academy Awards for Best Original Screenplay and Best Actor. Furthermore, the National Film Registry inducted Rocky into its roster. The industry put the film’s props in the Smithsonian Museum.

His face is very familiar to action movie enthusiasts as he starred in the Rambo film series. The first film, First Blood, earned him critical and commercial success.

In the film, he played the soldier John Rambo, who faced challenges with PTSD after the war.

From the beginning of his career until now, Stallone has proved to be one of the most esteemed action stars.

FTX King of Crypto Collapses in Eight Days

Sam Bankman-Fried went from being the “King of Cryptocurrency” to having his company file for bankruptcy and resigning as CEO in under eight days.

In addition, he could face federal investigation over how he managed the company’s finances.

Extensive interviews with him have flooded the internet in recent years. In interviews she spoke in video chat from his desk in the Bahamas. Some of them contain an eerie clicking sound.

As the press listens intently to his incredible story of how he became a millionaire in just five years, the rattle of the entrepreneur’s mouse keeps repeating.

“Click, click, click,” it goes repeating outbursts while Bankman-Fried’s eyes stare at the screen.

His video doesn’t show what he does on his computer. But his tweet provides a clue.

“I’m (in) famous for playing League of Legends while on phone calls,” he said on Twitter in February 2021.

Bankman-Fried is the former boss of the falling cryptocurrency exchange FTX. Moreover, he is a game enthusiast. He explained why in numerous tweets to his nearly one million followers.

Gaming was a way to free him from running two companies trading billions of dollars a day.

“Some people drink too much, some gamble. I play a League,” he stated.

FTX Investment Call

Another story resurfaced online this week that he’s been playing fantasy battles for teams, following news that his cryptocurrency empire had collapsed.

Per a blog post from venture capital firm Sequoia Capital, Bankman-Fried played a fierce League of Legends battle in a video call with their investment team.

However, it didn’t appear to be an issue at all. The group invested $210 million in Bankman-Fried’s firm FTX.

After the news broke, Sequoia Capital erased that blog post and said it is currently writing off its investment as a loss.

But the firm doesn’t stand alone in this dilemma of heart-stopping investment loss since Bankman-Fried’s $32-billion empire fell down. FTX possessed approximately 1.2 million registered users who used the exchange to purchase cryptocurrency tokens like Bitcoin and more.

Several FTX investors, from massive traders to daily crypto enthusiasts, wonder whether they’ll ever recover their savings from the exchange’s digital wallets.

Bankman-Fried Story

It’s a heart-stopping collapse. And the journey of Bankman-Fried to the top is also its own story of twists – risks, rewards, and beanbags.

The multibillionaire attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he studied math and physics. The school is a distinguished US research university.

However, the young, intelligent undergraduate states that the lessons acquired in the student forms contributed to his path to riches.

Bankman-Fried said in an interview with BBC radio last month that he recounted being dragged into the “effective altruism” movement. Effective Altruism is a group of individuals “trying to figure out what practical things you can do with your life to have as much positive impact as you can on the world,” he added.

Therefore, he decided to dig into banking to make money and give it back in greater initiatives.

Furthermore, he learned to trade stocks on temporary work at the trading company Jane Street in New York. After a while, he got bored and went on to experiment with Bitcoin.

That’s where everything started.

‘Harry Potter’ Alum Daniel Radcliffe Contradicts J.K. Rowling’s Statements on Trans

The boy who lived contradicts statements by Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling. In particular, the author made controversial comments about transgender people.

As many might already know, Daniel Radcliffe played Harry Potter in the film adaptation of Rowling’s beloved book series.

In a June 2020 interview with The Trevor Project, Radcliffe disagreed with the author’s statement on trans issues. However, Rowling is always sharing her opinions on social media and in published articles these days.

Radcliffe told IndieWire that he made the statement because he felt he had something to say, especially to Harry Potter fans.

“Transgender women are women,” he wrote.

“Any statement to the contrary erases the identity and dignity of transgender people and goes against all advice given by professional health care associations who have far more expertise on this subject matter than either Jo [Rowling] or I.”

Radcliffe added to his statement: “Particularly since finishing Potter, I’ve met so many queer and trans kids and young people who had a huge amount of identification with Potter on that. And so, seeing them hurt on that day, I was like.

“I wanted them to know that not everybody in the franchise felt that way. And that was really important.”

Radcliffe Mimics Harry Saves

The actor went on to say he wouldn’t have felt comfortable if he didn’t say something about it.

“It was really important as I’ve worked with the Trevor Project for more than ten years. And so I don’t think I would’ve been able to look myself in the mirror had I not said anything,” he said. “But it’s not mine to guess what’s going on in someone else’s head.”

Radcliffe initially entered the Trevor Project’s Circle of Hope in 2009. The program is a community of huge donors who play a vital role in the organization’s financial figurehead.

The Trevor Project is a national leader offering crisis mediation and suicide prevention services to the LGBTQ community.

The actor’s statements come after another Potter star came to Rowling’s defense, telling The New York Times that “the verbal abuse” on the author was “disgusting” and “appalling.”

Ralph Fiennes, who portrays Voldemort, said: “I mean, I can understand a viewpoint that might be angry at what she says about women.

“But it’s not some obscene, uber-right-wing fascist. It’s just a woman saying, ‘I’m a woman. And I feel I’m a woman, and I want to be able to say I’m a woman.’ And I understand where she’s coming from. Even though I’m not a woman.”

Harry Potter Series

Harry Potter spans seven books and eight films. Warner Bros. produced and distributed the film series.

Here are the film titles:

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (2001)

Chamber of Secrets (2002)

Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)

Goblet of Fire (2005)

Order of the Phoenix (2007)

Half-Blood Prince (2009)

Deathly Hallows Part 1 (2010)

Deathly Hallows Part 2 (2011)

The film series stars Radcliffe, Emma Watson (Hermione Granger), and Rupert Grint (Ronald Weasley).

Matthew Perry Once Wrote Quantum Physics Paper for Julia Roberts

Matthew Perry demonstrated the significance of uniqueness with his proposal to Julia Roberts. He tried to get her to star in Friends.

An excerpt from his forthcoming memoir, Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing, reveals that the sitcom actor sent the Eat Pray Love star an entire paper on quantum physics.

Perry attempted to persuade Roberts to be on board in the 1996 Season 2 episode “The One After the Superbowl, Part 2.”

“Julia had been offered the post-Super Bowl episode in season 2, and she would only do the show if she could be in my storyline,” Perry said, according to an excerpt from The Times.

“Let me say that again. She would only do the show if she could be in my storyline. (Was I having a good year or what?) But first, I had to woo her.”

The actor tried to get Roberts to say yes by sending “three dozen roses” and a note. (Friends co-creator Marta Kauffman inspired him to do so.)

The note read: “The only thing more exciting than the prospect of you doing the show is that I finally have the excuse to send you flowers.”

But Perry didn’t get a classic answer.

“Her reply was that if I adequately explained quantum physics to her, she’d agree to be on the show,” Perry recounted. “Wow. First of all, I’m in an exchange with the woman for whom lipstick was invented. And now I have to hit the books.”

Quantum Mechanics

He then immediately plunged into the world of quantum mechanics. It was all worth it, because he was rewarded triumphantly.

“The following day, I sent her a paper about wave-particle duality and the uncertainty principle and entanglement. And only some of it was metaphorical,” he said.

“Not only did Julia agree to do the show, but she sent me a gift. Bagels – lots and lots of bagels. Sure, why not? I was Julia f—king Roberts.”

The two quickly became friends through the fax machine. And it bloomed into something more.

“I did let her in, both figuratively and literally. And a relationship began,” he recalled. “We would already be a couple by the time we started filming the Friends Super Bowl episode.”

In the episode, Roberts portrays Chandler’s elementary school classmate Susie Moss. The two came together and started to go out. However, Susie has just planned the scheme to get back to Chandler. During their date, she steals all of his clothes for shaming her in the fourth grade.

Kevin Bright, the series’ executive producer, recounted the academic paper and exchange of faces between Roberts and Perry in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in 2021.

“Matthew asked her to be on the show. She wrote back to him. ‘Write me a paper on quantum physics, and I’ll do it,” he stated. “My understanding is that Matthew went away and wrote a paper and faxed it to her the next day.”

Perry Cut the Ties

Alexa Junge, a scriptwriter, also remembers the notes vividly.

“There was a lot of flirting over faxing. She was giving him these questionnaires like, ‘Why should I go out with you?’” she stated.

“And everyone in the writers’ room helped him explain to her why. He could do pretty well without us. But there was no question we were on Team Matthew and trying to make it happen for him.”

However, Perry ultimately backed down two months into their relationship because of his insecurities, as stated in his memoir.

“Dating Julia Roberts had been too much for me,” he said, according to the Times.

“I had been constantly certain that she was going to break up with me. Why would she not? I was not enough. I could never be enough. And I was broken, bent, unloveable. So, instead of facing the inevitable agony of losing her, I broke up with the beautiful and brilliant Julia Roberts.

“She might have considered herself slumming it with a TV guy. And TV guy was not breaking up with her. I can’t begin to describe the look of confusion on her face.”

Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing will be available on November 1.

Netflix Presents Basic with Ads Plan as a Result to Dwindling Subscribers

Netflix will unveil a new, cheaper plan with ads in November after a massive drop in subscribers and growing competition from multiple streaming services.

For $6.99 a month, the plan called Basic with Ads offers 15-30 second ads before and during shows and movies. Also, due to licensing restrictions, there will be a smaller selection of content. Correspondingly, ads are shown on average four to five minutes per hour.

The new plan does not offer users the ability to download content for offline use.

The announcement comes after the company experienced a decline in subscribers for the first time in more than a decade this year, with at least 200,000 down in the first quarter of this year. Subsequently, the company imposed redundancy on over 150 workers, dozens of contractors, and part-time employees in May.

As Netflix faces a considerable reduction in subscribers, streaming rival Disney+ is earning more subscribers, particarly in millions. In August, Walt Disney Co. revealed that Disney+ gained 14.4. million customers for the quarter concluded June 30.

Netflix’s ad-free offer was formerly “a deep part of our brand proposition,” a letter to shareholders by the company in 2019 stated.

“We believe we will have a more valuable business in the long term by staying out of competing for ad revenue and instead entirely focusing on competing for viewer satisfaction,” according to the letter.

Strong Competition Led to Basic with Ads

But as pressure from streaming competitors mounts and subscriber numbers dwindle, Netflix executive Reed Hastings said in April that the streaming giant was looking at cheaper deals with ads.

“Those who have followed Netflix know that I have been against the complexity of advertising and a big dan of the simplicity of subscription,” Hastings explained on the April first-quarter-earnings call.

“But as much as I am a fan of that, I am a bigger fan of consumer choice – and allowing consumers who would like to have a lower price and are advertising tolerant to get what they want makes a lot of sense.”

Subscribers are provided to watch films and shows in high-definition video quality (up to 720p) on one device at a time with the Basic with Ads plan. However, ads will not appear in any Netflix games.

Alongside the release of the lower-price plan, Netflix will improve its Basic plan, at $9.99 a month, from standard definition (480p) to HD.

The Basic with Ads plan will be accessible in 12 countries and will be released in the United States on November 3.

Steve Burns Returns to ‘Blue’s Clues’ in its Film Adaptation

After a heartwarming message of love that brought fans to tears about a year ago, original Blue’s Clues host Steve Burns now joins his old friends in this debut film inspired by the Nickelodeon series.

Burns, along with successors Donovan Patton (Joe) and Josh Dela Cruz (Josh), will appear in Blue’s Big City Adventure. It follows Josh and everyone’s favorite puppy on a trip to New York after Josh’s auditions for a Broadway musical.

However, Josh forgets his handy dandy notebook at home, so Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper embark on a trip to the big city. There, they meet a local acquaintance: Burns, who has traded in his unforgettable green striped polo shirt for a tie.

As the journey to the Big Apple continues, Josh and Blue meet new friends and discover the magic of music and dance. The musical, which premieres on Paramount + on November 18, also includes performances by BD Wong, Phillipa Soo, Ali Stroker, Alex Winter and Steven Pasquale.

Blue’s Clues was initially released on Nick Jr. in 1996. In the series, Burns guides children through a variety of mysteries, with his dog Blue helping to unravel the clues. In 2002, Burns left the show, leaving the leash to Steve’s brother, Joe, played by Patton.

The series was rebooted in 2019 as Blue’s Clues & You! with new host Dela Cruz.

Burns Addresses Sudden Exit

Last year, on the show’s 25th anniversary, Burns recorded a video message about his sudden departure (in season four, “Steve Goes to College”), cutting onions for fans.

“Hi, you got a second?” he stated, dressed in a new green polo.

“You remember how when we were younger, we used to run around and hang out with Blue and find clues, and talk to Mr. Salt, and freak out about the mail, and do all the fun stuff? And then one day, I was like, ‘Oh hey, guess what? Big news… I’m leaving.”

Burns then asked, “Can we talk about that?”

The 48-year-old host elaborated that the time he was away made him challenge himself and utilize his mind.

As a grown-up, “I literally am doing many of the things that I wanted to do.”

He further said, “Look at all you have done and all you have accomplished in all that time. And it’s just… it’s just so amazing, right? I mean, we started out with clues, and now it’s what? Student loans, and jobs, and families, and some of that has been kind of hard, you know?

“I know you know. I guess I just wanted to say that after all these years, I never forgot you. Ever. And I’m super glad we’re still friends.”

In an interview with EW in 2003, Burns said that Blue’s Clues family always held a part in his heart.

“I’m really protective of the show and the new guy [Donovan Patton],” he stated. “But the nice thing is now I get to bust that character out whenever I want to. It’s kind of like being Clark Kent.”
